Susan's Review of In The Air Tonight by Marie Force

The strong characters, suspenseful storyline and the small town setting immediately drew me into Marie Force's In The Air Tonight.

Denise, Blaise and Houston were strong, relatable and believable characters. I could relate to the teenage Blaise-the small town atmosphere, the peer pressure and how she internalized her experience. What she saw never left her—she was put in an untenable position.

Blaise’s decision moves the storyline forward and impacts every character in the novel. Houston makes the decision to contact Denise knowing that if she wanted justice; his relationship with his brother, friends and his standing in the community would never be the same. Everything would change—and it did.

The novel is fast paced and the suspense builds with each chapter. The chapters are told from alternating POVs which helped me gain insight into the characters thoughts and actions. The author perfectly captured the small town vibe and the high school popular kid mentality. There several unexpected plot twists throughout the story which kept me on the edge of my seat.

The story made me stop and think several times about what I would have done if I were Blaise. Would I have been too afraid to speak up? Would I have had the courage to speak up? Loved that the author explored the actions vs consequences theme this novel.

If you are looking for a suspenseful novel set in a small town filled with secrets - pick up a copy of In The Air Tonight!

Susan's Review of How Much I Want by Marie Force--Miami Nights #4

I put my hands on her hips and bring her in close to me, kissing the top of her head and breathing in the distinctive scent of her hair, the scent of my love. “I’m focusing on the most important thing here, and you calling me your boyfriend is a big deal. You want to know why?”
“Um, sure. Why is that?”

“Because I’ve never had a girlfriend before.”
“That’s not true. You’ve had all the girlfriends.”
“There have been girls, yes, and women, yes. But never one I would call an official girlfriend until now."
“You’re thirty-two years old, Nico.”
“I’m aware.”
“It’s weird that you’ve never had a girlfriend before.”
“I never wanted one before I met you. Now that’s all I want, but only if it’s you, of course.”
The withering look she gives me is the one women have been giving men since the beginning of time, and I love it. I love her, and I need her to know that again. Right now. Leaning even closer to her, I whisper in her ear, “You’re the only one I’ve ever loved.”
“Nico,” she says on a long exhale. “How do you do this to me?”
“What am I doing?”
“You know!”

Nico Giordino 's reputation precedes him. Simply put—he’s a player. His sisters and cousins describe him as toxic. Relationships are not his thing. I had a hard time envisioning Nico maintaining a relationship with Sofia. Marie Force has created a dynamic and fascinating character that at first I did not consider to be hero worthy. Nico’s love for his family, his love for Sofia and his need to protect Mateo won me over.
I admired Sofia Diaz. Loved her strength and her determination to provide a better life for herself and her young son. Sofia is resilient –she left her abusive ex-husband, is caring for her son who is recovering from a long term illness and is working to support her son. The Giordino family has taken her under their wing—she is grateful for their love and support. Her ex-husband does not approve of Sofia’s new life and new family—this causes tension between them.
Nico realized that Sofia was special and he understands that he needs to show her he cares about her and Mateo. Loved the back and forth banter between Nico and his cousin Dom about Nico’s feelings towards Sofia. Loved the friendship and sizzling chemistry between Nico and Sofia. With each chapter, Marie Force builds upon the couple’s relationship – Nico consistently steps up for Sofia and she in turn learns to trust him. Loved that both characters were dynamic— Nico learns to truly care for someone while Sofia grabs a chance for love and happiness for herself and her son.
Loved the elements of suspense and danger that are woven into the fast paced storyline. This plot choice sets How Much I Want apart from the other books in this series – it held my interest and I read the book in one sitting. There is plenty of romance and laughter in this story as several of my favorite characters appeared throughout the novel.
How Much I Want has all of the story elements that I adore—intrigue, romance and complex family relationships. I highly recommend this novel!

Susan's Review of Here, There and Everywhere by Marie Force--Bulter, Vermont series #8

Isabella Coleman wasn’t looking for love when she attended her cousin Wade’s wedding in Boston, but she hadn’t counted on the bride’s father, Cabot Lodge. He’s older, wiser and one of the most handsome, charming and funny men she’s ever met. Izzie is instantly smitten, and after a wonderful time at the wedding, she’s certain she’ll hear from Cabot again soon. But she doesn’t hear a word from him until she’s back in Boston and invites him to dinner. After yet another fantastic time together, she’s once again optimistic—and once again disappointed when she gets nothing but silence from him.

Cabot has his reasons for keeping his distance. After his former wife took off with their baby daughter, he spent twenty-five years looking for Mia, who suddenly reappeared in his life as a grown woman with a new husband. He’s never been happier than since Mia returned, but those twenty-five years of searching left him with a deep well of bitterness that a sweet woman like Izzie doesn’t need in her life.

Until Izzy is seriously injured in a car accident, and all bets are off. Bitterness aside, Cabot can think of only getting to her as soon as he possibly can—and staying with her for as long as she’ll have him. Now Izzy and Cabot are hunkered down in her cozy home in Vermont, and things are starting to get real. They’ll both have to decide if their time together is a temporary interlude or the start of something lasting.

Here, There and Everywhere took me by surprise in such a good way! The novel is filled with characters whose stories will touch your heart, drama that will keep you turning the pages and a romance that will make you believe in true, all-encompassing love.

Cabot Lodge is one of the most complex and intriguing heroes that I have met. His conflict between loving Izzy and letting go of his past anger and grief was perfectly told. I emphasized with him and then got really made at him…..even though I understood where he was coming from. Izzy and Cabot were such a great couple. Loved that Izzy was independent and knew what she wanted from their relationship and wasn't afraid to put it all out there. She understood that Cabot was wounded but, realizes that although he is a competitive businessman he is a sweet, nurturing, loving person

. Loved the secondary stories that are woven seamlessly in this novel. Vanessa opens up to Izzy and Grayson about her career. Lucas and Landon’s visit to Colton’s mountain top home during a blizzard was perfectly written- the conversations between the brothers were comical and serious at the same time-lots of love and laughter with these brothers. And there’s a secondary romance that totally amazed me—just loved this couple. Loved the closeness of the Abbott and Coleman families and the relationship that Elmer has with his daughters and grandchildren. Elmer and his sidekick Linc are my two Favorite characters—love their match matching schemes and their amazing results make me smile!

Here, There and Everywhere is the perfect late winter read. Snuggle up with a mug of hot chocolate and enjoy this novel!

Susan's Review of Someone Like You by Marie Force-- Wild Widows Novel-- #1

Roni

After I suddenly lose my husband, Patrick, in a senseless shooting, I’m lost in a sea of well-meaning people trying to make the unimaginable seem possible. How am I supposed to go on without the man who's been at the center of my life for nearly a decade? My friends and family do what they can for me, but I quickly realize that surviving this loss is going to be on me. One day to the next, I have to make the decision to go on, but life isn’t done throwing me ringers, and just when I think I’ve got this young widow game figured out, I find out how wrong I am.

When a friend of my sister’s connects me to the Wild Widows, I find a group of fellow travelers who understand my new reality in a way no one else in my life ever could. The Wild Widows have one requirement for membership to their group—I must be open to the possibility of a Chapter 2, which is what they call a second chance at love. While I’m not in any way looking for or ready for a Chapter 2, if I’ve learned anything it’s that I’m not in control of where this journey will take me.

Someone Like You is the first book in Marie Force’s Wild Widows series and believe me –it has ALL the feels. I was drawn to Roni Connolly when Lt. Sam Holland told her that her husband, Patrick, was killed by a stray bullet in Fatal Reckoning. Sam’s friendship is a lifeline for Roni and I wanted to read her story.

Patrick and Roni had been together for 10 years and married for a few months when he died. Roni’s struggle to accept Patrick’s death is perfectly written. She feels his presence in their apartment and dreams of him and she can’t sleep or eat.

Roni accepts an invitation to join a support group called the Wild Widows. The Widows offer Roni emotional support, guidance and friendship. They have walked in Roni’s shoes and understand that acceptance isn’t something that happens on a timetable and that each widow’s journey towards their new life is different. Wild Widows Iris and Brielle were honest, compassionate and supportive to Roni and I loved that the Wild Widows had a caveat—each member had to be open to a Chapter 2—a second chance at love.

Loved that Roni was a strong person, acknowledged her struggle and reached out to the Wild Widows for help, advice and comfort. The storyline in Someone Like You is outstanding—all the feels and several amazing twists and turns. The supporting characters in this novel added a lot of depth and compassion to the story—Roni’s parents and sisters, her in-laws and the Wild Widows had significant roles in her journey.

Someone Like You will grab at your heartstrings—it’s an absorbing, emotional read filled with friendship, love and most of all HOPE. Fans of Kristin Hannah, Robyn Carr and Kristan Higgins will adore this novel.

Susan's Review of Come Together-by Marie Force Butler #7

Three years after his marriage ended in dramatic fashion, Noah Coleman has one goal—to steer clear of romantic entanglements. In fact, he steers clear of most human interaction, studiously avoiding his large, meddling extended family, working until he’s exhausted and then repeating the pattern day after day. His strategy has worked well for him for years, keeping him sealed off from anything that can cause him pain or angst. Or it was working for him... before his company was hired to rebuild the Admiral Butler Inn after a fire reduced it to rubble, and he was forced to co-exist with the exasperatingly difficult, gorgeous architect the inn’s owner, Mrs. Hendricks hires to oversee the project.

While nursing a badly broken heart, Brianna Esposito is determined to complete the Butler Inn construction under budget and on time—and to make partner in the Boston firm where she’s been working fourteen hours a day for five years. Nothing is going to stop her from achieving her goal, especially a cranky contractor with the people skills of a rabid cougar. Noah Coleman is the most exasperating human being she’s ever had the misfortune to tangle with. She’s never had screaming fights with anyone the way she does him, and the fact that he’s also the sexiest man she’s ever met makes it that much more difficult to hold her ground.

When Mrs. Hendricks intervenes and orders the two of them to resolve their differences, Brianna is stuck having dinner with the man she wants to stab one minute and kiss the next. And will he ever tell her why he’s so bitter and angry? Brianna suspects the answer to that question could also be the key to his well-protected heart.

Come back to Butler, Vermont to find out if these two adversaries will give in to the sparks that’ve been flying between them for months or if they’ll finally succeed in driving each other crazy.

Maroe Force writes an engaging, emotional and romantic story for contractor Noah Coleman and architect Brianna Esposito. I was captivated by this couple and set my alarm early to finish the book before work.

Noah has been hired to rebuild the town’s inn and he’s in daily contact with Brianna who is the project’s architect. Acrimonious best describes their working relationship. Noah believes that Brianna is micromanaging the job. Brianna admits that Noah is sexy but she’s convinced that Noah has no people skills. The owner of the inn intervenes and provides them with a coupon for dinner and suggests that they work through their difficulties. Can Brianna spend an evening with Noah without arguing with him?

I loved the spirited banter between the couple and their emotional heart to heart conversations. Noah has appeared in previous books and I wondered what set him apart from his relatives—he’s quiet and a bit of a loner. Noah is torn—he’s attracted to Brianna but, should he trust his heart again?

Marie Force is one of my favorite authors. I love the dynamic characters who own their stories, the blend of sassy and emotional conversations that pull at your heart strings and the small town community of Butler, Vermont. Loved catching up with Elmer and Linc—they make me laugh each time they appear in the series- Hunter and Megan and Grey.

Come Together is a fast paced, well-crafted novel which explores several challenging topics—I was immersed in this novel until the very last page. Looking forward to Izzy and Cabot’s book in 2022!

Susan's Review of Blackout After Dark by Marie Force-- Gansett Island #23

The lights are out on Gansett, and things are getting steamy!

An island-wide power failure has thrust Gansett into darkness.

We’ll take this opportunity to catch up with each of the couples we’ve come to know and love, and meet a few new characters who’ll appear in upcoming books.

It’s the heart of summer, the power’s out and things are getting hot on Gansett Island!

I highly recommend Marie Force's Blackout After Dark! I was engaged in this character driven novel set on Gansett Island from start to finish.

Marie Force is a fabulous story teller. I adore the Gansett Island series because each one of the characters brings something unique to the island community and their stories are important threads in this ongoing series. I enjoyed catching up with my favorite friends Mac and Maddie, Luke and Sydney, Abby and Adam and Dan and Kara…and of course Big Mac!—and being introduced to Dara, Oliver, Cooper, Jack and Piper.

I really love that the novel was a full cast book and that the storylines were told from each characters point of view. I adored the laugh out loud banter between the McCarthy brothers: Mac, Adam, Evan and Grant, the heartfelt conversations between Charlie and Stephanie and checking in with Paul and Alex Martinez and their family. Big Mac McCarthy is the heart and soul of this series; his dream of raising his family and building his business has come true. Loved that Big Mac cares for his community and continues to dream big by working on renovation projects with his son Mac.

Marie Force weaves the important moments -- passion, conflict and poignant conversations-into a fabulous cohesive book. She blends the themes of romance, forgiveness and hope with laughter and love in each chapter. I loved meeting the new characters and was drawn into Dara and Oliver’s story and I can’t wait to read their journey. There are lots of surprises in each characters storylines and the conclusion was perfect—yes I cried---I was surprised and loved every word!

If you are looking for the perfect read this holiday weekend—pick up a copy of Blackout After Dark!

Susan's Review of Rescue After Dark: A Gansett Island Novel by Marie Force

They've both been unlucky in love. Is their luck about to change?

Reality TV star Jordan Stokes is taking time to figure out her next move—tucked away from prying eyes in her grandmother's home on Gansett Island with her identical twin sister, Nikki. Eastward Look is the perfect place to heal and regroup. It's not lost on her that her sister was busy falling in love with Riley McCarthy while Jordan's world and marriage were falling apart in front of an audience of millions.

Fire Chief Mason Johns might put out flames for a living, but the fitness buff firefighter with a god-like body sure knows how to heat things up. When he locks lips with the island's newest resident during a rescue, he feels an undeniable spark that he can't ignore—no matter how hard he tries. The recovering alcoholic has had his fair share of bad relationships, but Jordan could be a game changer.

He saved her life… but she just might rescue him right back.

The summer is heating up as we take the ferry back to Gansett Island for another story about love and redemption and second chances. Catch up with series favorites, including Blaine, Mallory and Quinn, Luke and Sydney and of course, Mac and Maddie McCarthy.

While on a mountain bike ride, Gansett Island Fire Chief Mason Johns observes smoke and flames coming from a nearby house. Mason rescues reality TV-star Jordan Stokes from a fire in her grandmother’s home. Something unusual passes between the couple when Mason performs mouth- to- mouth resuscitation on Jordan. Marie Force gives Mason and Jordan an immediate, almost magical connection and this drew me into the story immediately.

Mason Johns and Jordan Stokes have been featured in other storylines in the series. I was intrigued by the pairing of the tall, workaholic, sexy fire chief with the reality TV-star.

During the summer months, the island is invaded by tourists and summer residents which tax the island’s police and fire departments. The added work-related stress adds to Mason’s workload. As a recovering alcoholic, he struggles with his sobriety every day. To keep himself on track he chooses to attend daily AA meetings with Quinn and Mallory (Light After Dark) and has a rigorous exercise program. I am glad that Marie Force continued the Mason, Quinn and Mallory storyline in this novel. The three friends understand the challenges of staying sober and support each other.

Jordan Stokes has escaped to her family’s home on Gansett Island. Her life is a nightmare. Brendan, her rapper husband, released a video of the two of them having sex. Brendan’s fans blame her for his arrest for domestic abuse, her reality TV show is in limbo and Brendan is refusing to sign divorce papers. She’s not looking for a relationship as her life is based in Los Angeles. Marie Force provides more details about Nikki and Jordan’s complicated childhood in this story—this helped me understand Jordan’s struggles.

Rescue After Dark is a fast-paced character driven novel with all the feels. Mason and Jordan’s journey is emotional and heart breaking at times. I loved the connection between the sexy fire fighter and the reality TV star and was cheering for them from the beginning of the book. Loved that the couple brought out the best in each other. Maintaining sobriety, dealing with stress and domestic abuse are woven into both this novel. Mac McCarthy is coping with work related stress and family pressures, too. Mac and Maddie McCarthy, Luke and Sydney Harris and Big Mac and Ned are featured in the story.

If you are looking for a feel good read that’s all about love, friendship and second chances – then Rescue after Dark is the perfect book for you!

Gansett Island Series-- Episode 1 Victoria and Shannon-- Marie Force

Gansett Island Episodes: Season 1, Episode 1

Gansett Island midwife Victoria Stevens loves taking care of people, in her job and in her personal life, especially when it comes to her boyfriend of one year, sexy Irishman Shannon O’Grady. Fueled by combustible chemistry, her relationship with Shannon has been H-O-T from the start. But she’s begun to wonder whether theirs is destined to be a short-term fling or possibly the love of a lifetime. When she goes looking for answers about his past, she learns something she was better off not knowing and isn’t sure what to do with her newfound information. What will happen when Shannon finds out she’s been asking questions about him, and will they be able to overcome the obstacles standing between them and happily ever after? Find out in this first Gansett Island Episode, which also includes the arrival of some long-awaited island babies.

Review

This is the first book in the Gansett Island Episodes by author Marie Force. The well-paced 106- page novella focuses on two secondary characters from the author’s Gansett Island series and takes place over a four-day period.

Victoria’s story appealed to me and drew me into the story immediately. Working as a Nurse Midwife, Victoria witnesses couples becoming families with the birth of their child. She sees how her patients work together and support each other through pregnancy and childbirth. She’s been dating Shannon for a year—and she longs for her happily ever after, too. Victoria asks Seamus, Shannon’s cousin, if he knows why Shannon can’t move forward. Seamus tells Victoria about Shannon’s past and she’s not sure how to approach Shannon with the information.

Victoria walks into a busy morning at the clinic-there are two Island moms in labor! She doesn’t have a minute to think about her problems as these moms are keeping her busy! Victoria doesn’t have a chance to talk to Shannon because of the surprise arrival of Gansett baby three. He finds out by accident and is not pleased. He knows he is stuck in the past but doesn’t know how to move forward. I emphasized with Shannon, his past was tragic, but was surprised that he didn’t relate his story to Victoria.

I enjoyed that the author wove in a total of three couples and their stories into this novella. It was great fun catching up with the characters and Victoria’s experience with one couple moved me to tears. I loved the couple’s book and was thrilled that they got their HEA! Several other much loved characters provided support to Victoria and Shannon and added to the fast- paced storyline. I enjoyed this short story and my ferry ride over to Gansett Island. Victoria and Shannon’s story is a poignant story about friendship, community, faith and love. The ending of this book was beautifully written and perfect for Victoria and Shannon.

Looking forward to the next full length Gansett novel and Episode 2!

About the Gansett Island Episodes . . .

From Marie:
My fictional island has become such a huge part of my life—and yours—over these last six years, and I’ve created so many characters who speak to me between books and during the writing of new ones. I can’t possibly give them all a new story in every book, but I still have so much to say about them. With that in mind, I’ll be launching a new “Gansett Island Episodes” series in 2017, featuring shorter stories about past characters who readers love and want more of. Mixed in with these episodes will be at least one full-length book a year. So we’ll have plenty more from our favorite island, with new stories for past characters as well as all-new stories, too. I’m looking forward to this new adventure and hope you’ll take the ferry to Gansett for the new episodes!

Susan's Review
Author Marie Force’s novel Every Little Thing in set in Butler, Vermont. The romance which develops between attorney Grayson Coleman and Emma Mulvaney is featured in this charming, character-driven, well-paced novel.

At first, I didn’t think Grayson and Emma had enough in common to make their relationship work long -term. Grayson has returned home to work in his family business after spending several years in Boston working as a corporate attorney. His last romantic relationship crashed and burned. Emma is a single mother who works in New York City as an office manager. She has a huge support system which includes her Dad and several close friends. Providing a warm, stable loving home for her precocious 9 year old daughter Simone is Emma’s focus; she hasn’t dated in years. Emma and Grayson sit by a fire and confide in each other after a wedding. The chemistry that developed between them during the fireside conversation drew me into the story.

The author’s descriptive writing style shines Every Little Thing. I could picture the main characters, envision having breakfast at the diner with Gray’s relatives Elmer and Linc and picture myself with Emma’s sister Lucy as she watched Simone and Colton ski. Marie Force effortlessly transitions between several subplots featuring Butler residents Hannah and Noah, Lucy and Colton and Elmer and Linc. Each one of the side plots connects back to Gray and Emma’s story and the significance of family and friends.

The central theme of family and community in this novel appealed to me. Grayson and his family are contacted by their father who abandoned them sixteen years ago. Grayson is faced with a moral decision which could alienate him from his mother, brothers and sisters. Emma has several things to consider when she is offered a job in Vermont. Can she uproot Simone from her family friends and school? Can she leave her widowed father in New York and start a new life?

The characters in this novel are easy to relate to as they are faced with every day concerns. The author seamlessly weaves issues such as modernizing a family run business, single parenthood, communication issues and a cancer diagnosis throughout the story. I liked that Emma and Grayson took a chance on love and they believed and supported each other. The conclusion to this romantic novel had a few surprises for several characters and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

If you are looking for a winter romance –pick up a copy of this heartwarming romance!

Marie Force is the New York Times bestselling author of more than 50 contemporary romances, including the Gansett Island Series, which has sold nearly 3 million books, and the Fatal Series from Harlequin Books, which has sold 1.5 million books. In addition, she is the author of the Butler, Vermont Series, the Green Mountain Series and the erotic romance Quantum Series, written under the slightly modified name of M.S. Force.  All together, her books have sold more than 5.5 million copies worldwide!
Her goals in life are simple—to finish raising two happy, healthy, productive young adults, to keep writing books for as long as she possibly can and to never be on a flight that makes the news.
