Susan's Review of Samantha Chase's Save Me--Donovan Series #3

Pretending to date the town’s bad boy seemed like a good idea.
But who knew that being bad could feel so good…
A small town, fake dating, opposites attract standalone romance from NY Times Best Selling Author Samantha Chase
br/>
Ryleigh Donovan has been unsuccessfully dodging her mother’s matchmaking attempts for far too long. In an act of desperation, she finds the one guy in her small town who is guaranteed to shock everyone to be her fake boyfriend. It doesn’t need to be for long, she just needs to buy herself enough time to recover from her mother’s last disastrous fix-up. It’s really a fool-proof plan. But when a few staged kisses lead to some very real feelings, she realizes she might be in over her head.
Ryker Masella has been patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity to get Ryleigh to take him—and his numerous attempts at asking her out—seriously. When she grabs him and kisses him in front of her family to prove a point, he’s more than on board. But when she proposes a fake—and temporary—relationship, he’s 100% on board. After all, she might be all about pretending, but he sees it as a way for Ryleigh to truly see the real him.
Fake flirting and orchestrated dates quickly bring on real feelings. For Ryker, they’ve always been there and he’ll be as patient as he needs to be. She might have asked him to save her from her family, but what he wants is to save her from herself.

Save Me is the third novel in Samantha Chase’s Donovan series. The chemistry between Ryleigh Donovan and Ryker Massella has been simmering for the past few months—I was so excited to read this novel!

Ryleigh Donovan is tired of her mother’s over the top matchmaking. Kate’s last fix up for Ryleigh was a complete disaster and Ryleigh needs to figure out a way to stop this nonsense. She leaves the pub and runs into Ryker Massella. Ryker is the opposite of what Kate views as boyfriend material for Ryleigh—he’s kinda scruffy looking with a beard and tattoos. Ryleigh asks Ryker to be her fake boyfriend and he agrees.

Ryker had asked Ryleigh out and she’d refused him. Now, he has the chance to romance Ryleigh and let her see the man behind the beard and tattoos. I enjoyed how this story evolved-at first Ryker supported Ryleigh. And when Ryker needed support-Ryleigh was there for him.

Ryleigh and Ryker are creative people; Ryleigh designs websites and Ryker is a well- known tattoo artist who is on a sabbatical as he figures out the next step in his career.. The chemistry between the couple is off the charts and it was so much fun to read their love story. Loved that Ryker put his feelings for Ryleigh out there first and waited for Ryleigh to fall for him—this was beautifully written.
Loved all the Donovan drama and that Ryker shaved his beard and got a haircut before his first family dinner—Ryleigh’s reaction was priceless—she knew he didn’t have to change his appearance to be accepted….this was such a key element in the storyline. Ryker’s interest in Ryleigh drew me into this emotional love story—the characters are beautifully developed, their love story is passionate and the addition of Donovan drama adds humor and light to the novel.

I highly recommend Samantha Chase’s save Me—Ryker is Ryleigh’s perfect Valentine!

Susan's Review of Tempt Me by Samantha Chase

Lady Celeste is thrilled to recommend Tempt Me by Samantha Chase.

He hates the holidays. She lives for them. Let the games begin.

A small town, grumpy/sunshine romance from NY Times Best Selling Author Samantha Chase

Six months ago, Liam Donovan met the world's cheeriest, most upbeat woman at a wedding.
It was the longest two days of his life.
Now she’s his next door neighbor.
Talk about awkward.

Tessa Sullivan believes in always looking at the bright side. Unfortunately, her new neighbor is the most negative man on the planet and seems to have made it his mission to ruin her good mood on a daily basis. She loves to sing, she loves to smile, but more than anything, she loves to decorate for the holidays. The fact that this seems to bug her new neighbor is simply a perk.

After twelve years in the Marines, Liam is more than ready to come home and start the next phase of his life. He’s starting a business, reconnecting with his mildly over-bearing family, and loves the fact that he’s finally got a place of his own. If only his neighbor’s decorations would stay on her side of the property. There isn’t one thing about Tessa that tempts him…until there is. Now she’s all he can think about.

Being friends makes sense.
Becoming lovers was inevitable.
But having Tessa be his forever is more than tempting.

*Each book in the Donovans series can be read as a standalone*

Review by Susan

Tempt Me is a poignant story of two people who are struggling to find their footing. Samantha Chase has created a heartfelt story for former marine Liam Donovan and music teacher Tessa Sullivan. At first, I thought Tempt Me was a grumpy hero-sunshine heroine novel- Tempt Me is SO MUCH MORE!! Samantha Chase has created two very complicated characters in Tempt Me. Neither character is what they appear to be—loved getting to know both of them. Tessa’s grief is overwhelming-she puts on her happy face to the outside world. Once she enters her front door she is surrounded by memories of the life she shared with Trevor. She understands she needs to move forward but is torn—she doesn’t want to forget Trevor. Loved that through Tessa’s experiences, Samantha Chase was able to show that everyone’s journey through grief is different. Liam has returned home after spending 12 years in the military. As the oldest sibling, he is used to bossing everyone around and having them fall into line. Things have changed –his brothers and sisters grown up, have successful careers and don’t appreciate his interference. The conversations between Liam and his brother Patrick are spot on and reveal so much about Liam. The novel takes place over a 4 month period which enables the reader to connect with the couple. The chemistry between the couple sizzles—this pairing is a true opposites attract romance. Liam challenges Tessa to move forward while Liam finds himself looking forward to cooking dinner with Tessa. Loved that Tessa brought laughter and love into Liam’s life. Tempt Me is a well-plotted, deeply emotional story with unforgettable characters whose story will tug at your heartstrings. I am so looking forward to the next Donovan book !! Reviewed by Susan Gorman ARC provided by the Author

Susan's Review Of Dare Me by Samantha Chase--Book 1 Donovans Series

One year ago, Arianna Donovan and Will Jameson met on a dare and spent a perfect 24 together before going their separate ways. She thought they would stay in touch, but he disappeared without a word.

Arianna thought she’d moved on. But when Will shows up at a family dinner with her older—and very protective—brother, she’s angry and confused. How could he possibly forget to mention that he was friends with her brother? No one knows about their past and Arianna wants to keep things that way. No matter how tempting Will is.

When he walked away a year ago, Will thought it was for the best. Staying away from Arianna was the smart thing to do, especially with how protective her older brother—his friend and fellow soldier—can be. Time and distance will work wonders when you’re trying to stay away from someone. Now that he’s seen her again, he forgets all about doing the smart thing. He’ll just have to first convince her to let go of her anger and give him another chance.

Will isn’t above playing the nostalgia card, and when he challenges Arianna to a sexy game of truth or dare, she can’t resist. Neither one is ready to tell the world what they’re doing, but how long can they possibly keep things a secret when there are Donovans ready to meddle around every corner?

Samantha Chase’s Dare Me has the best meet cute!

One year ago, Arianna Donovan met Will Jameson on a dare. The couple spent a perfect day sightseeing in San Francisco and ended their romantic date watching the sun rise. Ari hoped to convince Will to try a long distance relationship-but-he ghosted her! Imagine her surprise when her brother Liam brought Will to family dinner! Best scene ever!

Ari graduated from college and completed an internship in California before returning home to Laurel Bay. She enjoys her independence and has a great job as a radiologist. Her parents and brothers view her as the “baby sister” they do not understand that she is an intelligent woman with a challenging career. She’s tired of her parents trying to control her and wants to put miles between herself and her overbearing family.

Will’s family life is the total opposite from Ari’s. Raised by his Mom who recently passed—he has no one to go home to. He is looking to put down roots after completing his last tour for the Marine Corps. His dream is to design affordable housing for single parent families. Will and Liam decide to develop a piece of property and he begins to settle into his apartment.

Love the Truth or Dare game that the author weaves through the novel. The game adds so much humor and fun as the questions are asked, answered, feelings are revealed and the chemistry sizzles. The answers quickly move Ari and Will’s story from friends to lovers. I loved Ari’s sassy independent nature and that Samantha Chase allowed both Will and Ari to grow during the novel. Ari became such a relatable, dynamic character with each chapter and watching Will fall head over heels in love with Ari was swoon worthy.

Dare Me is the first book in Samantha Chase’s Donovan series. I adored Ari and Will’s sexy truth or dare romance. The characters are appealing, the romance sizzles and the connection between Ari and Will is genuine. Looking forward to the next book in the series—Tempt Me.

If you are looking for a fun, flirty, heartfelt read treat yourself to Samantha Chase’s Dare Me! I highly recommend it!

Susan's Review of Samantha Chase's Kiss The Girl--Magnolia Sound --#11

Savannah James is no stranger to heartache and loss. It wasn’t enough to lose two sets of parents, now she’s losing the only person she has left. Escorting Cash Coleman back to Magnolia Sound so he can say goodbye to his family is a no brainer if it means she gets to spend whatever time he has left with him. Once he’s gone, it’s back to her lonely life in Seattle. At least, that’s what she thought would happen before she met Cash’s family—and his youngest son.

When it comes to his father, Jackson Coleman isn’t short on anger. So when the old man comes back to Magnolia Sound to say goodbye, he’s determined not to care. But with Cash comes Savannah, and Jackson starts to question everything he’s ever thought about his father—like why was he able to be a parent to a friend’s daughter when he couldn’t even be there for his own sons? As much as Savannah represents everything he resents about Cash, he also can’t deny the intense attraction he feels for her.

After a lifetime of being left behind, Savannah finally found the one person she wants to stay. But in order to have a chance at a happily ever after with Jackson, she’ll have to fight every instinct she has to not get attached.

Samantha Chase’s Kiss the Girl is an unforgettable, emotional journey with all the feels. It’s filled with appealing characters, down to earth family drama and heartfelt romance. The relationship triangle between Cash Coleman, Savannah James and Jackson Coleman drew me into the story.

Cash Coleman’s return to Magnolia Sound drives the storyline and sets off a series of events that impacts the entire Coleman clan. Samantha Chase’s voice is perfect for this type of novel as she writes from the heart. Loved the conversations between Cash’s sons and family members. The dialogue is honest, direct and no one holds back as they ask themselves why has Cash reappeared? Why now?

Jackson and Savannah meet at Donovan’s Pub—neither is aware of each other’s relationship with Cash. Loved that Jackson was at a total loss for words when he first approached Savannah at Donovan’s. The attraction between the couple unnerved Jackson so much that he forgot to get her phone number.

The characters is Kiss the Girl are complex, compelling, and they face real life challenges. Savannah has overcome illness, loss and betrayal; her story tugged at my heart. Her journey made her a strong person but, she can’t get over the fear of being left behind. Jackson grew up without his father and although he has a large, supportive family he suffers from trust and abandonments issues. I felt for Jackson and his brothers Austin and Garret. Even though they were part of the large Coleman clan, they were not afforded the same opportunities as their cousins.

I was moved to tears throughout the novel as Savannah’s relationship with Jackson strengthens as Cash’s condition worsens. Samantha Chase did not redeem Cash instead, she chose to provide insight into a troubled man’s life and his choices. Cash didn’t ask for forgiveness. He wanted understanding and a chance to reconnect with his family. The conversations that Cash had with Savannah, his sons and Grace were poignant and gave me goosebumps. Cash and his family were given a rare gift. They were able to say good bye, clear the air and share memories of happy times with Cash. These pages were poignant and written with so much heart and understanding.

Samantha Chase’s Kiss the Girl focuses on Savannah and the Coleman family’s journey. The compelling story emphasizes Savannah’s ability to overcome the many obstacles in her life and enables her to trust herself to love again. Jackson learns to trust, to forgive and to move forward. Loved the subtle character nuances, the relationships between the Coleman brothers and the strength of Grace Coleman who held her family together through good and bad times. The powerful story with its dynamic characters, passionate romance and family drama is a must read for 2022!

Susan's Review of the I Do Over by Samantha Chase -- Meet Me at the Altar -- #6

For 48 hours, they were married. But that was a long time ago.

Seventeen years ago, Maddie Christopher told one little white lie, and it has been wreaking havoc on her life ever since. At the time, the lie was worth it–it meant she got to marry the man she loved, however brief a marriage it was–but now she's ready to finally move on. But in order to do that, she needs to find the man whose heart she broke all those years ago and finally apologize.

Knox Channing has everything he could have asked for in life–after a career in the Navy SEALs, he's now running a thriving security firm with his two best friends. The only thing that would make it better is if he wasn't the lone single guy in his friend group. But after having had his heart broken once, he's not looking to go back there.Or at least that's what he thought before Maddie showed up in his office.

He swore that he would never let himself fall for anyone again, much less for the woman who once broke his heart. But sometimes you fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time. Twice.

?

Samantha Chase created two relatable, dynamic characters. Knox Channing is a complex character. The former Navy Seal served with distinction and a partner in a successful security firm. He never, ever dates a girl more than one time. I wanted to discover the reason –was he afraid of commitment? – did he have a broken heart? Maddie Christopher is a successful physical therapist who wants to settle down and get married. Something is stopping her—she needs to ask someone for forgiveness.

Both Maddie and Knox are flawed characters. Samantha Chase switches the story up by having the heroine be the character that needs forgiveness. And it WORKED! Maddie made a big mistake that torpedoed her relationship with her parents, friends and most of all Knox. Knox joined the Navy to avoid the anger of his parents. Ms. Chase does not downplay Maddie’s actions as she owns her mistakes and knows she needs to ask Knox for forgiveness. I related to Maddie’s mistake; she was young in love and terrified of her father’s anger. It doesn’t change what she did—but, I could understand why she reacted the way she did.

Forgiveness is the key element to this romance. Samantha Chase writes a story full of emotion and balances it with a healthy dose of romance, friendship and challenges. Loved this storyline because it’s told with a different twist; it’s Maddie who needs to step up, own her mistakes and ask for forgiveness. Maddie knew she needed to speak with Knox in person—she needed to face the fire—and this had me rooting for Maddie and Knox! Samantha Chase crafts believable story about high school lovers who reunite 17 years later. She adds in the perfect amount of backstory to highlight the couples different career paths and life experiences and keeps the focus on the connection between Maddie and Knox.

Maddie and Knox’s story is a second chance romance with all the feels. Loved the engaging characters who drew me into their love story and had me rooting for their happily ever after from the first page.

Add the I Do Over to your beach bag this weekend—am sure you will love the fireworks between Maddie and Knox as much as I did!!

Susan's Review of Groomed To Perfection by Samantha Chase----Meet Me at the Altar #5

Ready to head back to the Meet Me at the Altar office and see who's falling in love and heading for their own happily ever after?

In just one night, she stole his jacket...and his heart.

Shy baker Emilie Michaels never thought she'd meet her Prince Charming. Especially no at an event she's working at. But when a handsome stranger finds her hiding in a corner and strikes up a conversation, she can't help but be drawn in. Unfortunately, duty calls and she's forced to flee, leaving the man of her dreams behind. All she has to remember that night night is his first name and the suit jacket he gave her to stay warm.

Family has always come first for the Vandergrifts. It doesn't matter what Cooper might want out of his life, his parents have had a plan for him since the day he was born. His mother even has his wedding all planned out, despite the fact that there's no bride in the picture. But when Cooper walks into the Meet Me at the Altar offices for a cake tasting and finds himself face to face with the woman he met at a party all those months ago, he thinks it might be time to finally have a say in his love life.
Cooper had resigned himself to a life that would be all about family obligations, but just a few hours with Emilie have him convinced that maybe he could be something else. It's just a matter of deciding whose happiness matters more: his family's or his own.

Fairy lights and a liberal dash of pixie dust create the perfect backdrop for Emilie Michels and Cooper Vandergrift romance. They meet at a society wedding – he’s a guest and she’s part of the catering crew. Cooper asks Emilie to stay and the couple talk for hours without revealing why they are at the wedding. The couple share a magical kiss before Emilie leaves with Cooper’s coat.

Samantha Chase’s Cinderella inspired novel Groomed to Perfection is filled with captivating characters, family drama and a classic Disney inspired romance. As the oldest son, Cooper Vandergrift is expected to take over the family business. Although he enjoys designing and building, he’s being pushed into a career and a life that does not appeal to him by is overbearing mother. Samantha Chase creates a wonderful hero in Cooper. I loved his easy going nature and cheered for him when he realized that he had to step up in order to claim his future.

Emilie has been one of my favorite characters in the series—she is a loyal friend to her business partners and always has a tub of frosting or a plate of cookies in times of stress. Emilie is hard working and family oriented-she takes care of her grandmother before heading into work. Enjoyed getting to know her parents and her grandmother—the best Samantha Chase character ever—she was a hoot!

Loved that Emile and Cooper supported each other. Both characters had dreams—Cooper wanted to work in the design department. Emilie wants to open a bakery at the Meet Me at the Altar offices. Loved the couples chemistry and Cooper’s relationship with Emilie’s grandmother was perfect—so sweet! Samantha Chase writes a heartfelt romance for this couple who realize family is more important than social standing, you can choose your future and a dream is a wish your heart makes!

I enjoyed every word of Groomed to Perfection and I know you will too!

Five Fun Facts About: GROOMED TO PERFECTION from Samantha Chase

1) There was a scene in the movie "Sabrina" where she was hiding in a tree and watching a society party on the property. That was partial inspiration for Cooper and Emilie's meet cute.

2) Another movie that inspired part of the book was "And Officer and a Gentleman". I may have watched that ending scene about a dozen times!

3) I wrote part of the book while staying at a hotel for the weekend for a mini-writing-retreat. It had a great view of downtown Raleigh and it made me write a scene where Cooper and Emilie are dining at a restaurant with a similar view.

4) I tend to go on sites like Zillow for inspiration for where my characters live. Cooper comes from a wealthy family and I had a hella good time looking up places for him! It's a huge time suck, but oh so satisfying!

5) There is a bit of a Cinderella theme to this book but I didn't want to be obvious with it. So instead of her leaving a shoe behind, she takes his jacket! Lol!

**BONUS FACT: I tell people this book is a cross between Cinderella and the original TV show, Dynasty. For those of you around my age, you may remember the version with Joan Collins, Linda Evans, and John Forsythe. Trust me when I tell you we have a VERY Dynasty-ish scene in this book!**
