Susan's Review of Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy by Sara Richardson

Pediatric nurse Kyra Fowler is finally going to realize her dream. She’s got a job lined up at the most prestigious children’s hospital in London. There’s only one little snag—first she has to sell the Wyoming town she’s just inherited from her estranged father. After a little fixing up, the place should easily attract a buyer. Hopefully she’ll be celebrating the sale by New Year’s.

Ex-Navy SEAL Aiden Steele couldn’t save his brother-in-law on the battlefield, but he can save his sister’s ranch and give his nieces the life they deserve in the town they love. He’s not about to let some outsider make a mint selling to a ruthless developer. Operation Save Star Valley is foolproof: show Kyra the sights, let the Christmas spirit work its magic, and bam! She’ll decide not to sell and he can ensure his family is taken care of. Except as he tries to make Kyra fall in love with the town, Aiden starts falling for her.

Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy is my first Holiday Read of 2022! I ADORED this heartwarming story of second chances set in the small town community of Star Valley, Wyoming.

The pairing of pediatric nurse Kyra Fowler and former Navy SEAL turned cowboy Aiden Steele surprised me. Kyra was determined to move to London until she learned that she inherited a town from her estranged father. She’s not interested in making friends or becoming part of the community. Her goal is sell the town by the holidays.

Sara Richardson writes the perfect hero for Kyra. Aiden is swoon worthy—a retired Navy seal who adores his nieces and helps his sister run her ranch. His goal?? To charm Kyra into staying Star Valley. The chemistry between Kyra and Aiden—off the charts!

I love Sara Richardson’s voice—the rich descriptions of Star Valley, the sights and its people drew me into the story. I loved reading the pages when Doris, Nelly and Minnie greet Kyra with coffee and muffins on her first day while Kyra was wondering how they got into her house! I imagined that I was part of the cattle round up adventure with Kyra, Aiden, Tess and her daughters. The scenery, the campfire and the banter between Kyra and Aiden were spot on. Adored the constant teasing between Aiden, Thatch and Silas as it added a lot of humor to the novel

Loved the holiday themed messages of joy, forgiveness and trust that are woven throughout the novel. Kyra was able to open her heart to new adventures, friendships and Aiden is able to reconcile with his past and focus on new beginnings.

Wishing on a Christmas Cowboy has all of the story elements that I adore-romance, complex family relationships and character growth. Loved the dynamic characters and the well-paced storyline. I hope Sara Richardson has a romantic story for Tess in mind!

Susan's Review Of Dare Me by Samantha Chase--Book 1 Donovans Series

One year ago, Arianna Donovan and Will Jameson met on a dare and spent a perfect 24 together before going their separate ways. She thought they would stay in touch, but he disappeared without a word.

Arianna thought she’d moved on. But when Will shows up at a family dinner with her older—and very protective—brother, she’s angry and confused. How could he possibly forget to mention that he was friends with her brother? No one knows about their past and Arianna wants to keep things that way. No matter how tempting Will is.

When he walked away a year ago, Will thought it was for the best. Staying away from Arianna was the smart thing to do, especially with how protective her older brother—his friend and fellow soldier—can be. Time and distance will work wonders when you’re trying to stay away from someone. Now that he’s seen her again, he forgets all about doing the smart thing. He’ll just have to first convince her to let go of her anger and give him another chance.

Will isn’t above playing the nostalgia card, and when he challenges Arianna to a sexy game of truth or dare, she can’t resist. Neither one is ready to tell the world what they’re doing, but how long can they possibly keep things a secret when there are Donovans ready to meddle around every corner?

Samantha Chase’s Dare Me has the best meet cute!

One year ago, Arianna Donovan met Will Jameson on a dare. The couple spent a perfect day sightseeing in San Francisco and ended their romantic date watching the sun rise. Ari hoped to convince Will to try a long distance relationship-but-he ghosted her! Imagine her surprise when her brother Liam brought Will to family dinner! Best scene ever!

Ari graduated from college and completed an internship in California before returning home to Laurel Bay. She enjoys her independence and has a great job as a radiologist. Her parents and brothers view her as the “baby sister” they do not understand that she is an intelligent woman with a challenging career. She’s tired of her parents trying to control her and wants to put miles between herself and her overbearing family.

Will’s family life is the total opposite from Ari’s. Raised by his Mom who recently passed—he has no one to go home to. He is looking to put down roots after completing his last tour for the Marine Corps. His dream is to design affordable housing for single parent families. Will and Liam decide to develop a piece of property and he begins to settle into his apartment.

Love the Truth or Dare game that the author weaves through the novel. The game adds so much humor and fun as the questions are asked, answered, feelings are revealed and the chemistry sizzles. The answers quickly move Ari and Will’s story from friends to lovers. I loved Ari’s sassy independent nature and that Samantha Chase allowed both Will and Ari to grow during the novel. Ari became such a relatable, dynamic character with each chapter and watching Will fall head over heels in love with Ari was swoon worthy.

Dare Me is the first book in Samantha Chase’s Donovan series. I adored Ari and Will’s sexy truth or dare romance. The characters are appealing, the romance sizzles and the connection between Ari and Will is genuine. Looking forward to the next book in the series—Tempt Me.

If you are looking for a fun, flirty, heartfelt read treat yourself to Samantha Chase’s Dare Me! I highly recommend it!

Susan's Review of At Home on Marigold Lane by Debbie Mason --Highland Falls-5

True love deserves a second chance.

For family and marriage therapist Brianna MacLeod, moving back home to Highland Falls after a disastrous divorce feels downright embarrassing. Bri blames herself for missing the red flags in her relationship and worries she’s no longer qualified to do the job she loves. But helping others is second nature to Bri, and she soon finds herself counseling her roommate and her neighbor’s daughter. Bri just wasn’t expecting them to reunite her with her first love . . .

Caleb Scott knows his failed marriage has been tough on his stepdaughter, so he’s grateful she’s found someone to confide in . . . even if it’s Bri MacLeod. Seeing Bri brings up feelings he’d thought were long buried. He knows it’s not the right time for either of them to be rekindling a relationship, but being with Bri feels right—like coming home. He’ll just have to convince her that risking her heart again might give them exactly what they both need . . . a second chance.

At Home on Marigold Lane is a charming, emotional story of second chances set in the tight knit community of Highland Falls. Debbie Mason blends romance, family drama, emotion and healing in this story. I was drawn to Brianna and her struggle to heal herself emotionally and physically.

Brianna has had a tough year; she divorced her abusive ex-husband, broke her ankle and femur and fractured her skull. A marriage and family therapist, Brianna knew she needed to take steps forward to heal herself. Her journey was not an easy one; at times Brianna was frustrated, angry and overwhelmed. Debbie Mason portrayed Brianna’s journey honestly and I was invested in her story. Loved Brianna’s strength of character—she practiced what she told her patients—to listen and forgive—two very important messages.

Caleb Scott is my type of hero—he’s a caring man trying to do right by his family and friends. He puts others needs above his own. Loved that he grabbed the chance to reconnect with Brianna. Their relationship is filled with family drama—it’s very complicated and messy. Loved that Debbie Mason wrote a realistic story for Cal and Brianna—life can be difficult at times. I enjoyed how this couple worked together, shared their feelings and worked through the issues. The chemistry between Brianna and Cal sizzled and as a reader I could feel the love, the emotion, the connection between them.

Loved that the entire community of Highland Falls supported the trauma center and the fund raising meetings added lots of humor into the story. Loved Izzy, Em and Josh and how the author incorporated their stories into the novel.

At Home on Marigold Lane has all the small town warmth and charm of a Debbie Mason novel—the characters and their stories captivated me and I had a hard time putting the book down. Loved the conclusion to the story as the last few chapters were full of surprises!

If you enjoy small town romances by Robyn Carr, Samantha Chase and RaeAnne Thayne—you will adore At Home on Marigold Lane!
