Susan's Review of Bayside Romance by Melissa Foster

After spending a year working in California, screenwriter Harper Garner has returned to Cape Cod. Harper needs to get back on track; emotionally, romantically and professionally. Her self-confidence is at a low point-her dating radar wasn’t working in LA , her cable series was cancelled and she can’t bring herself to tell her family that her cross country move was a HUGE mistake.

Harper meets her friends at a bonfire and comes face to face with Gavin Wheeler; her best friend’s business partner. Harper and Gavin had an intense one night stand at a music festival before she left for California.

Melissa Foster write a fabulous love story for this couple. I loved that Harper and Gavin had a connection-their past could have been awkward but the author chose to focus on the positives. As Harper was telling her friends about her life in LA, Gavin felt that something was not quite right with Harper. I liked that he acknowledged their connection first, reached out to her and listened to her story without judgement.

I adored Gavin – he’s sweet, kind and is willing to put Harper’s needs first. He’s an interior designer who excels at creating beautiful homes for his clients- but he’s forgotten to make his house his home. I loved that he was neat and organized and was so surprised to discover that when Harper was writing--her cottage was littered with paper. Harper thrived in chaos—Gavin needs organization. Loved that Gavin gave Harper space and that he understood that she needed to regain her self-confidence.

Melissa Foster serves up a fun, flirty, sexy twist second chance romance in Bayside Romance. Loved the sexual chemistry between Harper and Gavin—it’s intense, emotional and very real. The couple learned to listen, trust and love each other during the novel. Gavin and Harper’s relationship is tested when a secret is accidentally revealed towards the end of the novel. Melissa Foster doesn’t make it easy for this couple—their story is comprised of several life lessons—as they figure out how to move forward together.

Susan's Review of Bayside Escape by Melissa Foster

Hold on to your hat for Violet’s wildly hot love story! Lizza is up to her old tricks again, and Violet is in for the surprise of a lifetime!

Two years ago Violet Vancroft was a nomadic artist who never wanted to put down roots and Andre Shaw was a prominent Boston physician whose roots ran too deep to unearth. Their love didn’t stand a chance—or at least that’s what Violet believed when she received a plea for help from the sister she’d never really known—so she snuck away like a thief in the night.

Now Andre travels the world, setting up new medical clinics, and Violet has finally found the family she’d always craved and the roots she’d never known she wanted. When their paths cross unexpectedly, it’s not the reunion either one imagined. But they’ve never stopped loving each other, and after the dust of anger and hurt settles, passion ignites even hotter than before. As the end to Andre’s time at the Cape nears, reality sets in, leaving them no closer to a future than they were before. Violet and Andre are forced to dig deep to discover if they’re destined to live apart forever or if true love really can conquer all.

I will admit that Violet wasn’t my favorite character in the Bayside series. Violet exemplifies the word badass. Swearing, gruff behavior, black clothes and a motor cycle—yes-that’s Violet. Her behavior bothered me but, Violet loved her sister Desiree and would do anything for her. I knew underneath the tough talk and black leather there was a story waiting to be told.

Bayside Escape is one of my favorites Melissa Foster novels. It’s so much more than I expected. There are a lot of family and trust issues and so many secrets. Violet keeps a huge piece of herself separate from those who love her. Learning why she’s led a double life adds so much depth and emotion to the story.

Violet and Andre met in Ghana when they volunteered at a Physicians Around the World clinic. They shared everything and were passionately in love until Violet left in the middle of the night. The reason she left? Her mother, Lizza, lied to her and told her Desiree needed her. Neither Andre nor Violet has forgotten what they shared.

Andre arrives to Desiree’s wedding as Lizza’s date and this sets the stage for a fabulous, passionate story for Violet and Andre. I loved that Andre accepted Violet and acknowledged her creative side and the tender, emotional side to her personality.

It was the understated strength and confidence he resonated that had drawn her in. His ability to soothe or tale control with a single glance, a single sentence. When they’d met he was a busy physician with no time for bullshit-Trust me or trust. There is no other option.

This book has all the feels—it’s emotional, passionate and heartbreaking. Violet and Andre’s story captivated me from the first few pages. Andre is Violet’s true north and their journey home is a excellent read.

Thirty-one year old Serena Mallery has watched her friends find successful, fulfilling careers and fall in love in the past few years. Serena has been attracted to Drake Savage since she was a teenager. Drake has decided that he and Serena are friends-no more, no less. Serena realizes that she needs to move off Cape to find romantic and professional happiness and accepts a position with an interior design firm in Boston.

Serena’s decision to move to Boston is the catalyst in this passionate friends to lover’s romance. Drake is blindsided by Serena’s news. He thought she would continue to work at the resort, help him with his music stores and take interior design jobs from time to time. Serena’s moving to Boston has rocked Drake’s comfortable world. At first, I thought that Drake was a broody, self- centered guy. The honest, thoughtful back and forth banter between Drake, Rick and Dean changed my mind. I realized that Drake was a complex, caring man. Drake had to acknowledge the depth of his feelings for Serena. I never doubted that Drake loved Serena with all of his heart as he did not want Serena to choose between him and her dreams.

In Bayside Heat, Melissa Foster tackles several important relationship issues—honestly, trust and believing in yourself. Serena and Drake have a great working relationship; they understand each other, Drake relies on Serena’s organizational skills and trusts her trusts her design sense. The couple faces a few challenges when their long distance relationship heats up. Commuting, work obligations and personal promises test the couple.

I loved reconnecting with the Bayside couples and Violet. Violet’s unfiltered remarks are hysterical and spot on. Her character adds a lot of humor and honesty to the storyline. The friendships between Drake and Serena and their friends is so important in this series. The Bayside characters support, laugh and listen to each other. I adored the scene when Drake cruised to Boston with Matt, Mira, Hagen, Dean Emery, Rick and Desiree and picked Serena up at the Seaport dock.

Bayside Heat is a heartfelt, sensuous, romantic novel. Melissa Foster creates a friends to lover’s story with a twist. Both characters grow during the story. Drake acknowledges his feelings for Serena and trusts Serena with his heart. Serena learns to stand up for herself professionally and figures out her path to balance her professional and romantic desires.

Bayside Heat is one of my favorite novels of 2018. And the epilogue? Perfect – it’s full of love, happiness and romance!

Bestselling author Kurt Remington leads a very structured, solitary life. He works out in the morning and writes for 8-10 hours every day on his oceanfront deck overlooking Cape Cod bay. This routine allows him to be immersed in his writing as he crafts his latest suspense book. However, Kurt’s writing schedule is interrupted when he hears Leanna Bray calling her puppy. He watches as the disobedient animal runs into the ocean and gets pulled into a strong current. The chemistry between Kurt and Leanna sizzles when Kurt rescues the puppy and returns him to Leanna.
Leanna is open and honest person, who is a free spirit and a bit scatterbrained. She inherited jam making recipes from a friend and has decided to start a home- based business. In order to pursue this opportunity, Leanna decides to spend the summer making jam and homemade bread at her family’s Cape Cod cottage.
Do opposites attract? Yes, they do! I loved that Leanna’s appreciation of the little things in life opened up a new world for Kurt—she brought color and sound into his black and white world. Kurt listened, supported and believed in Leanna. Their romance is the perfect mix of passion, humor and romance!
Addison Cole’s descriptive writing style shines in this story! While reading the book, I could imagine Kurt immersed in writing his novel on his deck overlooking the ocean while Leanna spent the afternoon nearby on the beach. The scenes which describe Leanna making jam and the sticky mess in her kitchen made me smile. The brightly colored buildings of Provincetown, the large outdoor flea markets and the Wellfleet drive-in come to life in this book. Leanna’s friends and their stories are woven throughout the novel. Loved the relationship between Leanna and her Seaside friends Bella, Jenna and Amy. They tease, listen and support each other— just like sisters. The Seaside neighborhood captures the small town community feeling perfectly-from the bonfires to the last minute wine parties on the deck.
However, Leanna fears that her relationship with Kurt will change when she is offered a huge contract which stipulates that her products be locally made. Kurt summers on the Cape, he lives in New York. She worries that they won’t be able to make a long distance relationship work. The heartfelt conclusion to Leanna and Kurt’s story has several surprises and is perfect for the couple. Melissa Foster blends passion, friendship and humor in Read, Write, Love at Seaside resulting in the perfect summer read!

P.S.---The excerpt for Bella’s story Dreaming at Seaside follows the Read, Write Love at Seaside excerpt—am reading Bella's story and loving it!

Kurt stopped cold. She wasn’t a rail-thin model; nor was she overly plump. Beneath the tank tops and cutoffs, Leanna Bray was one hundred percent hot, sexy woman, and she stole any chance Kurt had at rational thought.
After securing her hair, she took the towel from his hands. “Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I was going to take Pepper to the water later, so this saves us time.” She traced a finger over the tattoo on his chest. “I never would have guessed you to be a tattoo guy.” It was all he could do to shift his eyes from her bikini top to her finger working its way across his bare chest.
“And the one on your arm?” She touched that one, too, and he could tell by the unchanged inflection of her voice that she wasn’t trying to be sexy or flirtatious. She was just being Leanna—curious, sweet. And it was affecting him. He cleared his throat and stepped away.
“Thanks. They were a…” Still in shock over everything about Leanna, he was at a loss for words. He was used to being in control, and Leanna was stealing that from him one hot breath at a time.
She cocked her head and looked up at him.
“A whim,” he managed. Whim? He’d never done a thing in his life based on a whim. She smiled. “Really? You don’t strike me as a whim guy. Hm.” She turned and tossed the blanket and towel over her shoulder. “I guess I’ll hit the beach, then. Come on, Pep.” She headed for the beach with a bounce in her step.
Kurt let out a breath and ran his hand through his hair. He watched her spread out the towel and lie down on her back, her hands tapping to some silent beat, her lips slightly parted, and Pepper running circles around her. She was so not what he needed. What am I doing? How was he supposed to think of killing and darkness with that beautiful, touchy-feely, all-too-comfortable-and-happy woman a few feet away?

“Bella? Are you here for the summer, or do you live here?”
She stacked the chocolate on top of a graham cracker, added the warm marshmallow, and then topped it off with another graham cracker. She stared at it for a minute before cocking her head in his direction and answering.
“I’m here until the s’mores run out.”
Then let me run to the store for more marshmallows.
She took a bite of the gooey treat and licked a streak of chocolate from her lower lip. She had a dab of marshmallow on her cheek, and once again, it felt natural to reach over and wipe it clean with his finger. Bella narrowed her eyes. Oops. There was that invisible boundary again. Maybe she wasn’t into him after all.
“I was saving that for later,” she said. With her back to Evan, who was preoccupied with his own dessert, she grabbed his hand and brought it to her mouth. His pulse quickened with the expectation of a sensually evocative suck. With wide, amused eyes, she turned his finger sideways and nibbled the sticky marshmallow off like it was corn on the cob.
“I’ll teach you not to steal my sugar. Open up.” She shoved the s’more toward his mouth.
“No, that’s okay.” He leaned out of reach to tease her.
“Come on. No one can resist s’mores.” She leaned in closer, holding the s’more to his lips. Her knee pressed against his thigh. “You know you want it.”
Yeah, I do. He took a bite of the sweet, sticky treat. Heat flashed in Bella’s eyes as she dragged her finger along the edge of his lower lip and held it up to show him the smear of chocolate before she slowly, seductively, sucked her finger clean.
Holy. Moly.
Beautiful, smart, and sexier than any woman he’d ever met. Bella piqued curiosities and desires that had been slumbering for way too long.
