Susan's Review of Embraced at Seaside by Addison Cole

Things are heating up at Seaside!

EMBRACED AT SEASIDE
Sweet with Heat: Seaside Summers #8
Addison Cole
Releasing April 11, 2018

After working hard all day creating his beautiful metal sculptures, Hunter Lacroux likes to unwind with a hot babe–or two. But after spending a handful of nights with smart, sassy, and beautiful Jana Garner, the woman who challenges everything he does and says, Hunter wants more.

As a dancer, boxer, actress, and waitress, Jana is tough, organized, and as dedicated as she is committed. She has to be to maintain her crazy schedule. But when it comes to men, Jana’s had a string of bad relationships, and there’s only thing she’ll commit to–not committing.

Passion ignites every time Jana and Hunter are together, but the closer Hunter gets, the faster Jana runs. When Hunter lays on the charm, Jana throws out a challenge she’s sure he can’t meet, and Hunter steps up to the plate, forcing her to face her hurtful past or let go of him forever.

Embraced at Seaside is the sweet edition of the steamy romance novel Seaside Embrace by Melissa Foster

PLEASE NOTE: “Embraced at Seaside” is true sweet with heat. Jana and Hunter’s story is the steamiest in the series, and remains true to the characters’ personalities. As with all Addison Cole novels, “Embraced at Seaside” does not include any explicit scenes or harsh language (with the exception of an occasional “damn” or “hell”).

“Dream on,” she said with a smirk. “You wouldn’t know how to romance a girl if your life depended on it.”

“Is that what you think?” His eyes bored into her.

She held his stare, hating herself for getting even more turned on by the tightening of his jaw and the determination in his eyes. Knowing he wanted her that badly made her stomach flip and dip like a school girl’s. And darn it, she loved that, too.

“Don’t fool yourself pretty girl. There’s nothing I can’t do.”

Addison Cole’s Embraced at Seaside doesn’t follow the typical romantic storyline. The reader quickly learns that the two main characters are friends with benefits. Jana Garner and Hunter Lacroux’s journey towards happiness isn’t easy; it’s hard won. The author creates an honest, relatable story for the characters as they test the commitment and relationship waters.

The author descriptive writing style enables the reader to understand the deep emotional connection and the all consuming passion that the couple shares. Loved that Hunter accepted Jana’s challenge to romance her! Their first date watching the sunrise on the beach was perfectly written. …. And so romantic! After reading this scene, I was hoping Jana would relent and date Hunter!

The dialogue in the story is fabulous—the author is able to blend in lots of humor into the story while keeping the conversations funny, challenging and honest. I could relate to Jana’s fear of putting herself out there after being hurt so many times. Loved the conversations between Hunter and his friend Clark. Although Hunter was a good friend to Clark during Clark’s separation; he could not understand why Clark would consider walking away his wife and son. This secondary plot was subtly woven into the storyline as Hunter and Jana were feeling their way through their new relationship. I noticed the difference between the two couples. Hunter was determined to be there for Jana while Clark’s commitment to his marriage waivered.

Hunter expresses his love for Jana in so many different ways. Jana is muse – she inspired his metal sculpture and challenges him to be a better, stronger man. I liked that Jana was strong willed and yet, very vulnerable. She was afraid to give herself over to love and almost missed her opportunity with Hunter. The last few chapters in the book are emotional, beautifully written and very heartwarming. I cried when Jana finally got it—Hunter loved and accepted her for herself—when she saw his sculpture.

Embraced at Seaside is a fabulous read with all the feels. The author keeps the characters true to themselves in this sweet with (hot) heat romance. The relationship between the couple kept me invested in the story. I adored that Hunter accepted Jana’s challenge to romance her. I knew when Hunter looked up How to be Romantic on the internet that Embraced at Seaside was going to be a fabulous read!

Worth The Fall by Claudia Connor - Audio Version

Worth The Fall
By Claudia Connor
☆☆☆☆☆
Audio Version
Worth the Fall is the first book of this series.
It is a story of such deep thorough romance,
you have to hope for them.
Matt is a single Seal. Handsome, tough
and determined. He knows what he wants.
He has made promises to his military
brothers. He is focused. Matt feels like
that is what makes a man a man. Keeping
his promises. Standing up for what he
believes is right.
Abby is at the beach. A widow with
four little children and beautifully blooming,
pregnant with child number 5. Abby has always
had to take care of herself. She knows how to
do it all on her own.
Now, you may be thinking that a story like
that cant be very realistic or romantic.
That a guy like that would never really be
able to make a life with a woman in that
position. Four and a half children!?
But it so works. It is such a romantic
story. I kept hoping that Matt was for real.
Can they make it work? Can anyone take
on such a large number of kids?
Plus a woman that does not need him.
I wanted it to work out so much with
Matt and Abby!! But there are so many
points in the story you are sure it is
not going to happen.
Its a story full of hope beyond hope.

Its sweet fun narration. And a
wonderful story.

Susan's Review of Fearless in Texas by Kari Lynn Dell

Title: Fearless in Texas
Series: Texas Rodeo #4
Author: Kari Lynn Dell
Pub Date: April 3, 2018
ISBN: 9781492658115

He’d step in front of a bull to save a life
But even he’s no match for a girl this Texas tough

Rodeo bullfighter Wyatt Darrington’s got it all figured out. The perfect car, the perfect job, the perfect looks—the perfect lie. He may be on the fast track to the Hall of Fame, but he knows he’ll always be an outsider to people like Melanie Brookman. Texas-born and bred, with the arena in her blood, Melanie’s come to see Wyatt as her personal enemy, and that suits him just fine—this way, she’ll never realize the truth.

He’s been crazy in love with her for years.
Melanie’s always been a fighter. Fiercely independent and tough as nails, she’s stood up to everything that got in her way—including Wyatt. But now her infamous temper’s got her on the ropes, and there’s nowhere left to run but toward the man she swore she’d never trust…and this time, there’s no denying just how hot he makes her burn
.

KARI LYNN DELL brings a lifetime of personal experience to writing western romance. She is a third generation rancher and rodeo competitor existing in a perpetual state of horse-induced poverty on the Blackfeet Nation of northern Montana, along with her husband, son and Max the Cowdog.

What I Love about Rodeo

There are so many things I love about rodeo that I could—and have—filled several books (aka the Texas Rodeo series). A million tiny details like the scent of wood shavings in a horse stall, the indescribable joy of a perfectly thrown loop, or the way a belt and buckle sets off a nice pair of hips. Lately, though, I’ve come to appreciate a facet of rodeo and life on the ranch that I’ve always taken for granted: rodeo makes women stronger.

Unlike other parts of our society, in rodeo and ranching, strength is a highly prized trait in a woman—both physical and mental. From the time we are old enough to be hoisted onto a pony to trot around the arena, we are praised for being ambitious, competitive, aggressive and independent. We are valued as much for what our bodies can accomplish as we are for our appearance. I might’ve started out by catching my husband’s eye, but I captured his heart the first time he saw me sort cows.

The smart, capable, take-no-crap women of the Texas Rodeo books are products of my environment, and none more so than Melanie Brookman of Fearless in Texas. May every reader who ventures into our world steal a page from her book and leave with a little more cowgirl in their blood—and their attitude

The air sizzled during the first few pages of Fearless in Texas as Melanie Brookman and Wyatt Darrington dance at a friend’s wedding. The couple acknowledges their attraction but decides not to give into it. An affair would only lead to complications. Kari Lynn Dell’s descriptive writing and smart dialogue immediately drew me into this superbly written character driven story.

Five years later…..

Melanie let her temper guide her and as a result her career and her love life has taken a tailspin. She accepts a job offer from Wyatt and leaves Texas for Oregon. There is so much more to Wyatt- he’s not your typical bullfighter. I adored reading about this driven, well connected, complicated man. In exchange for Melanie’s help in reopening his bar, Wyatt has promised to help Melanie find her estranged brother. Wyatt’s promise is a key element in the storyline. The promise draws the couple together and it has the power to tear them apart. The plot choice made the novel a compelling read.

Loved that both Melanie and Wyatt were older and had history. Melanie is a fun character—it took me awhile to figure out this feisty, headstrong woman. Melanie’s emotions rule her heart and she misjudges situations; these actions provide insight to her. In contrast, the twice divorced Wyatt appealed to me. Loved Wyatt’s relationship with Grace, Gil, Louie and his dedication to his rodeo clinic. After five years, the sexual attraction between Melanie and Wyatt is still present in every conversation, text and meeting between the couple. The couple tries to keep their feelings in check but eventually passion overwhelms them.

Fearless In Texas is a well-paced sensuous read with two dynamic lead characters. Loved the chapter when Wyatt and Melanie hike along the Coyote Ridge trail and are forced to stay overnight in the woods because Wyatt has reinjured his ankle. I could imagine Melanie helping the injured Wyatt out of the ravine, telling him to lean on her and setting up their campsite. The Truth or Dare game they played by the firelight provided interesting insight into both characters. Wyatt correctly guesses Melanie’s fear of the dark. The secondary characters added to the storyline and provided just the right amount of humor and insight. The author balances the storyline by providing insight into the competitive world of rodeo. The author shows through the characters of Melanie and Grace how much practice, determination and strength it takes to compete in this venue. The conclusion of the novel was excellent. The author made several surprising plot and character choices which kept me reading.

This is the first book by Kari Lynn Dell that I have read. I bought book one in this series based on the authors relatable characters, strong storyline and descriptive writing style and I can’t wait to read it!

Wyatt braced a hand on the front door of the Bull Dancer Saloon, blocking Melanie. “You can’t go back in there.”

She looked at his arm as if debating whether she should bite it or snap it in half. “You think you can stop me?”

“Yes.” He jerked a thumb toward the door and quoted the flyspecked sign posted inside. “I am the proprietor, and we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.”

Hell. That wasn’t what he’d meant to say, but the sparks that were flying off of her were burying themselves under his skin, kindling fires that threatened to reduce all of his good intentions to ashes. Her mouth dropped open, and he braced himself for some truly spectacular swearing. Instead, she snapped it shut, whirled around, and strode away, her shiny red heels clicking angrily on the empty street.

“Melanie…wait! Could we just talk—”

Her answer was a stiff middle finger shot straight in the air. He took a couple of steps in pursuit, but his ankle made it clear that anything above a sedate stroll was a bad idea, not that he was sure what he’d do if he caught her. Attempting to stop her when she was like this would be like tackling a mountain lion, but if she intended to go to one of the other bars, she was headed the wrong direction.

“Where are you going?”

“To the bridge. It’ll have to do, since I assume you’ll follow me and there’s not a cliff handy.”

He’d already taken several more steps, but he stopped. “The rail is too high.”

“Then I’ll knock you over the head with a rock and roll you off the dike.”

She wouldn’t. Would she? “If you’re going to commit assault and attempted murder, you’ll need your keys to make your getaway.”

She stopped dead and spun around. He held up the keys in one hand and the purse in the other.

She swore and started back toward him. “Don’t think I won’t kick you square in the nuts and stomp on your fingers when you fall.”

“Not a doubt in my mind.” He unlocked the door that led up to her apartment, yanked it open, and threw both the keys and the purse to the top of the stairs before she could reach him. Then he stepped back, feet braced, ready to dodge or deflect any blow aimed at his groin. If Melanie had said it, she was seriously considering it.

She went for the door instead, but paused with her hand on the knob. “If I go in after them, you won’t let me out.” “Nope.” Although it would take all his strength to hold the door shut if she was determined to push it open, and there was the fire escape…

Her hand dropped, and she turned on him. If it were possible for a stare to be literally cutting, his guts would’ve fallen out onto the street. “What…the hell…is your problem?”

“You.” He gestured toward her painted face, her dress, those damn red shoes. “I know what all of that means, but you’re wrong. And if you would just let me explain—”

“Yes!” She threw her hands in the air like a Baptist preacher. “Please, oh wise and knowing male, tell me how I’m supposed to feel. Better yet, explain why it is that you could leave this place with any of those women you’ve never met before and you get high fives, but if I do the same, I’m an embarrassment to your shitty little bar.”

Despite his vow to remain calm, his temper began to stir. “I did not say—”

“You don’t have to. I grew up in the goddamn Bible Belt. I’ve heard it all my life.” The bitterness in her voice ran generations deep. “Well, sorry, but not sorry. I’m done trying to please anyone but myself. I’ll sleep with who I want, when I want, and y’all can just deal with it.”

Not likely. Wyatt’s anger boiled up, shooting past the red line and straight into fury. Yes, her rage was justified, but she did not get to lump him in with bastards like Michael and her former boss. All he’d ever wanted, from damn near the first moment they’d spoken on the phone, was Melanie, but it was as if the entire universe had conspired against him, and he was so damn tired of fighting this bone-deep need…

He took a step toward her. Then another. She didn’t budge, but her eyes flicked toward the apartment door as if reconsidering her choices.

He leaned in close, his breath fanning her cheek, his voice low and lethal even to his own ears. “Is that what you want? Just someone with a pulse you can use up and toss out when you’re done?”

He heard her swallow, but she didn’t flinch. “Why shouldn’t I? Men have been doing it forever.”

“Yes, we have.”

He gathered a fistful of her hair and wound the warm silk around and around his hand until his knuckles were pressed to the nape of her neck. Her breath caught at the electric press of skin against skin, and her eyes went even darker. The line he’d held for so long had been crossed. He was beyond stopping—unless she made him.

“As long as you’re determined to do something you’ll hate yourself for in the morning, it might as well be with me.” And then he kissed her.

And instead of shoving him away, Melanie clenched both hands in his shirt and yanked him closer.
