Homefront by Jessica Scott

Gale and Melanie married and became parents very young.
Gale is a military man. The military has always come first.
It was up to Melanie to raise their daughter, Jamie. She had
to figure it all out on her own. When Melanie has had enough,
they get a divorce. And now, years later, Gale is stationed
close to Jamie & Melanie. He has realized how much he
missed. What he gave up. The many things he can never
be a part of. Now comes the hard part. Trying to make a
place for himself in the family. Little does he know, his
timing could not be more perfect.

"Let's pretend we just met."
"Gale, that's silly."
His hands tightened around hers. "Just hear

me out." She stilled beneath his touch. "Look, a
lot has changed. With you, with me. With Jamie.
But after the other night, I realized I was the
interloper. And that you were right. That I'd
waltzed right into your life and expected
everything to kind of fall into place because I
wanted it to." He looked down at their hands.
"That's not fair to you and everything you've
gone through. You've done a hell of a job with
Jamie, Mel." A slide of his thumb over her hand.
"But I want to get to know you again. I knew the
girl who used to jump into the quarry with me."
He cleared his throat. "I want to get to know
who you are now."

As always, with Jessica Scott, the characters are dimensional
and human. Not perfect. They struggle and they are faulty.
But her writing is always hopeful. The stories are deep and
emotional. I continue to look forward to the next book
coming from her.

Homefront is highly recommended reading.
I got an ARC from NetGalley. Simply because

I could not wait to read it!
My personal copy has been
purchased.

Before I Fall by Jessica Scott

by Jessica Scott
Book One of the
Falling Series

This is the beginning of a new series for Jessica Scott.
It was yet another captivating story from her.
Her writing always keeps me interested.
The characters are so real.

Noah has come home to stay. He has done his duty in the
military. And he has the scars to prove it. The scars that
cover his body. The scars that distort his thoughts. He has
fallen onto the same path many do. Pain relief in a bottle.
Beth has been taking care of her father since she was a
teenager. Her mother could not handle it. She left. Somehow,
Beth has managed all these years. Her father served in the
military. Now, he struggles with physical and emotional pain.
He has been medicating himself any way he can all this time.
Alcohol and drugs. Just trying to make it from day to day.
He has been so thankful for his hard working, brave daughter.

If there is one thing Beth knows, she hates the military. They have
not taken care of her father as they should. Now, he is addicted to
the pain meds. Beth will never be with someone from the military.

Noah is trying to get through college. Get his degree. While most
classes are hard, one of them is impossible. Stats. But with the
help of a tutor, he stands a chance.
Beth is trying for her degree as well. Working. Taking care of her
father. Stretching every dollar til it squeaks. She needs the money
from tutoring. And Noah needs a tutor.
But Noah is a military man. And that is something
she cannot tolerate.
And that's where the story really begins.

Jessica's writing is sincere and true. You can feel the emotions
from the words. The characters are alive and real. I am always
impressed with her works.
Be prepared for drama. I felt angry at the truths in the story.
But they are truths from real life for many people today.
Beth and Noah have learned to be hard. To protect and cover
their hearts. They know how to fight for what they need.
The biggest struggle may be to learn trust.
I look forward to the rest of the series.

All I Want For Christmas Is You - Review

All I Want For Christmas Is You - a novella
by Jessica Scott

"He'd never leave her alone again. He brushed his lips
against hers. "You went to war. You lost people you
care about." A gentle nudge. "You're not broken.
You're just different. We're all different
when we come home."

This is what I love about Jessica Scott reading.
This quote sums up the style of her writing.
Her romantic stories are love stories.
With real life and hard times. The characters
are real. The story is real. How do you survive
war, come home and just continue on? As if you
only came home from vacation?
Its not possible.

Patrick and Sam are both military and both have
gone for long deployments. They are sharing a
daughter. Trying to keep their relationship together.
Theirs is a story of challenge and struggle.
Put that together with snowy roads,
a precocious 8 year old, family & friends,
going commando in freezing weather
and Christmas. The season of love and miracles.

You wind up with a story that starts out
heart wrenching and then comes about
heart warming. A wonderful, thoughtful,
short read. With everything you are
looking for in romance story telling.

Review by Lisa Hutson

All Major Patrick MacLean wanted was Christmas with the woman and child who were his family in everything but name. But Captain Samantha Egan has come back from the war a different woman than the one who left - and she doesn't know if she can love him anymore.

But neither of them counted on the determination of a little girl they both call daughter and if Natalie has her wish, her parents may have no idea what's coming for them. It's going to take Christmas miracle to bring these two wounded warriors back from the edge of a broken heart.

Jessica Scott is a career army officer, mother of two daughters, three cats and three dogs, wife to a career NCO and wrangler of all things stuffed and fluffy. She is a terrible cook and even worse housekeeper, but she's a pretty good shot with her assigned weapon and someone liked some of the stuff she wrote. Somehow, her children are pretty well adjusted and her husband still loves her, despite burned water and a messy house.

Back to You - Review

Paperback version
Reviewed by Lisa Hutson

The order this series was published in has
been more than a little hard to follow. It does
matter in some of the storylines. Though I have
read the ones I have out of order.
And still enjoyed every story.
This one is the story of Trent & Laura. They have
been important parts since the beginning. But I believe you
could read this story and understand just fine.

Trent and Laura are trying to make it through
as a family. Sometimes, love isn't all it takes.
When you have to be stubborn and determined.
There are times you need help from your friends.

And maybe even a hamster or two.

Jessica writes stories that I don't believe anyone else can.
I think she has experience that no other romance writer has.
Her stories are not political. They are romantic love
stories about people living a life in and around the military.
So her characters have challenges, kind of the same and
kind of different, from any other romantic story.
Substance abuse, loss of limb, cancer,
 mental health issues, adultery....
All the sorts of challenges in every romance novel.
But different.

The characters are so human. Each different.
After a while, you will know who is
speaking just by the dialogue.
There is laughter, sadness, fear and love. There are
friends, family and chains of command.
I cannot recommend this series and this author
enough. I have only a small number of
auto buys. Jessica Scott is one of them.

This story has been available for some time in the
kindle version. Only recently available in the
paperback version.
