Susan's Review of An Heiress's Guide to Deception and Desire-By Manda Collins-- A Lady's Guide -2

England, 1867 : As half of the writing duo behind England's most infamous crime column, Miss Caroline Hardcastle has quite the scandalous reputation. It may have cost her a fiancé, but she would much rather bring attention to crimes against those ignored by society than worry about what the ton thinks of her.

After Caro's dear friend is kidnapped, however, she has no choice but to work with Lord Valentine Thorn, the same man who broke her heart. Worse, when her actions put her father's business at risk, a marriage of convenience may be her only solution . . . but can she trust Val to stand by her? Or will their past repeat itself?

Val--the new Viscount Wrackham--is in an untenable position: His father is demanding he find a respectable bride to secure the succession. Yet the only woman he's ever loved, Miss Caroline Hardcastle, is notorious for behaving improperly. And she's never forgiven him for his youthful transgressions, missteps made in the name of familial duty, but ones he still regrets to this day.

As they grow closer to unmasking the culprit, Val sees an opportunity to show Caro he's a changed man. But can he convince her to give their love a second chance--before death does them part?

Caroline Hardcastle and Lady Katherine Eversham are summoned to their friend Effie Warrington’s home. Effie has been kidnapped and her fiancé Francis Thorn was left unconscious and bleeding at her doorstep. Caro discovers that her former fiancé Valentine Thorn has arrived at Effie’s home ahead of them. Loved the heated and entertaining conversations between Caro and Val as they form a truce to find Effie's kidnapper. The couple must put aside their feelings and work together when Francis Thorn suddenly disappears.

Manda Collins creates an emotional, entertaining second chance romance for Caro and Val. Both characters have grown since they ended their engagement. Caro is very independent and politically savvy. She a newspaper columnist with a huge following, a cookbook author and she hosts salons. Val is the new Viscount Wrackham and is feeling pressured by his father to marry. Caro is the only woman Val has ever loved and he deeply regrets not standing up to his father and brother when they insulted Caro’s family. He has never forgiven himself and this endeared him to me.

Manda Collins chooses to have Caro and Val’s story play out slowly during the first part of the novel. This choice worked for me as the couple had so much to work through—old hurts, new feelings and family concerns plus the kidnappings. I liked that neither character was perfect. Val owned his mistake and knew he needed to speak up to his father before telling Caro his true feelings. And Caro needed to forgive Val before they could move forward.

Manda Collins kept me intrigued with many characters, twists and turns in the storyline. The differences between the social classes is threaded throughout the novel during this time of moral and political reforms. The combination of the romance and kidnapping mystery worked for me.

An Heiress’s Guide to Deception and Danger is well plotted whodunit, the romance between Caro and Val tugs at your heartstrings and I screamed when the identity of the kidnapper was revealed! Thank you Manda Collins for another fabulous read!

Susan's Review of Snowy Ever After by Samantha Chase & Stefanie London - - A Holiday Story

Snowy Ever After by Samantha Chase & Stefanie London is now live!

What could be better than a holiday wedding?
How about two?

Join bestselling authors Samantha Chase and Stefanie London for a whole lot of love this holiday season with Snowy Ever After!

With some of your favorite Magnolia Sound and Patterson's Bluff residents, we can guarantee you'll get all those small town, holiday feels with guaranteed happily ever afters and I Do's!

WEDDING WONDERLAND by Samantha Chase:

SAVE THE DATE!
You are cordially invited to the wedding of Mia Kingsley and Austin Coleman.
Or you will be if a snowstorm doesn't blanket the town with piles of fresh snow, making the trip to the chapel near impossible.
But the Coleman family is not about to let a measly little storm ruin Mia and Austin's perfect day. After all, Magnolia Sound is just the place for a perfect wedding wonderland.

DESTINED FOR FOREVER by Stefanie London

Romantic comedy screenwriter, Lily Dunn, watches her life go from happily ever after to crappily ever after when she gets dumped on live television.

Facing her overprotective family at her cousin's wedding is not ideal. They think she's not cut out for cutthroat Hollywood. How can she prove she's moved on? Pretend to have a new man, of course. The only rule is: keep it fake.

But the chemistry with her former high school crush burns hotter than an open fire. Can two bruised and battered hearts find the kind of love that only happens in the movies?

Wedding Wonderland –Samantha Chase

Author Mia Kingsley is concerned. She knows that it takes months to finish a book and that weddings take months to plan. So why has she agreed to her fiancé Austin Coleman’s plan to get married in six weeks during the Christmas holidays?

Loved that this novel blended the excitement, the stress and the last minute wedding craziness with laughter, love and family. Enjoyed the cameo appearances by the Meet Me at the Altar ladies: Skye, Leanna and Josie.

It looks like Mia’s wedding wish to be barefoot on the beach is about to come true ... until it starts to snow! Magnolia Sound is blanketed under 2 feet of snow! Things are looking pretty grim; the wedding is canceled, guests are stranded at airport and Mia and Austin are devastated. The couple is unaware that their family and friends are about to spread a bit of Christmas magic their way!

Samantha Chase scores a hat trick with the heartfelt wedding vows, the close knit Coleman family and the romantic setting. Mia and Austin are my favorite Magnolia couple. Their opposites attract romance drew me into The Way the Story Goes and this novella continues their romance without missing a beat! I teared up when Austin imagined his grandfather smiling at him and giving him his blessing on his wedding day –just the right blend of sentiment and emotion! Loved catching up with the Coleman’s and the couple’s friends as they joined together to create a magical wedding celebration!

Wedding Wonderland is celebration of family – grab a mug of hot chocolate and enjoy!

Destined For Forever-- Stefanie London

What could be worse---getting dumped by your boyfriend on national TV or sitting next to your high school crush on an airplane? Lily Dunn’s dilemma drew me into this entertaining holiday romance.

Stefanie London is a new to me author. I adored this character driven novel and the smart, witty back and forth banter between Lily and Sean Hutcherson. Sean Hutcherson was Lily’s secret high school crush. They shared one passionate kiss and Sean has been the inspiration for every romantic hero Lily has written. Swoon!

Sean offers to be Lily’s diversion tactic—fake boyfriend- for the weekend family wedding they are attending. Stefanie London adds just the right amount of drama and passion in the couple’s relationship. Although Lily and Sean’s chemistry sizzles, Lily reminds herself throughout the story that the relationship is pretend even though she is finding Sean hard to resist. There’s lots of love, laughter and celebration in this story too. Loved the scene where Lily wants to make a snowman – Sean teases her and the snowballs fly!

Destined For Forever has all the feels—it’s an entertaining, perfectly paced story full of charming characters set during the holiday season. Loved that both characters were at a crossroads-professionally and romantically-and that new beginnings were within their grasp. I enjoyed every word and am going to return to Patterson’s Bluff to read about the characters I met in this novel!

Dear Santa by Debbie Macomber

 Dear Santa

by Debbie Macomber

Audible Version

If you are a Debbie Macomber fan, you know

certain things to expect from her books.

You will always feel happy that you read it.

There are probably going to be a few moments

of suspense. Most likely, there will be a

character or two that you think are the worst

of human kind. There will always be generosity,

kindness and forgiveness. Often, I think I

could never forgive that. Or I could never get

past the anger at that person. But in the

end, as with real life, I usually find that I

am glad she forgave and moved on. Just

as I usually feel in my own life.

Her books are not what I would call

goodie-two-shoes. They are kind of like life

lessons. Life lessons we all have to manage.

Dear Santa will remind the reader how

important it is to follow your heart.

Listen to your conscience. And the old

saying, If you can either be right or

be kind, choose to be kind.

The narrator, Keylor Leigh, does a nice

job. Easy listening. Debbie Macomber

always does a personal message at the

beginning of her audio books.

I am always glad to listen to it.

I hope you enjoy it.
